IN THE JUST-ENDED YEAR, OVER 638 MILLION BOTTLES WERE SOLD
THE GOAL FOR 2023 IS TO CONSOLIDATE THE ACHIEVED RESULTS
With a balance sheet that demonstrates the excellent health of Prosecco DOC, the consortium that protects and promotes the famous Veneto-Friulian sparkling wine closes the year 2022 with an increase in production volumes (+1.8% compared to 2021) and a more than proportional increase in values (+11.5% compared to 2021), for a total of 638.5 million bottles sold and an estimated value of over 3 billion euros.
The export share, for the first time, rises to 81.2%, while domestic consumption in 2022 accounted for 18.8% of total sales, still confirming the denomination’s leadership at the national level.
Even regarding last year’s harvest, the signals are positive, with volumes capable of adequately satisfying the entire 2023 in terms of quantity and quality.
Results that confirm the successful planning and management of the denomination.
On the foreign markets front, the new development that stands out is the leap made by the United States, which, with a growth of 5.8%, has overtaken the United Kingdom in volume, which had been at the top in terms of value for several years.
Excluding Italy, which consumes 120 million bottles, the first market today is therefore the USA, with over 134 million imported, followed by the UK – which with an increase of 3.5% compared to 2021 “stops” at 130 million bottles – while Germany, solid in its third position, grows by a good 2.8% compared to the previous year, reaching to consume 46 million pieces. France, for its part, confirms itself in fourth place, in terms of exports, with particularly significant increases: +19% in volume and +30% in value.
The dominant theme of the new vintage will be the definition of the denomination’s objectives contained in the #roadto2030 project, which will be presented in the coming weeks, in preview, to the production system and subsequently to other stakeholders.
