Celebrating the Unique Synergy Between Wine Producers and Their Regions in an International Arena in Gorizia

SIENA – The much-anticipated XXII edition of the Città del Vino Wine Competition is set to take place in the picturesque city of Gorizia, Italy, from May 30th to June 2nd, 2024. This international event, renowned for its celebration of diverse wine varieties, introduces an exciting new promotion for 2024. Participants who register three wines by April 12th, just before the Vinitaly event, will have the opportunity to register a fourth wine for free.

The competition, organized annually by the Città del Vino association, operates under the esteemed sponsorship of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). This partnership ensures that the competition maintains high standards and global recognition. Additionally, the European Network of Wine Cities, known as RECEVIN, collaborates with the Italian association to bring this unique event to life.

What sets the Città del Vino Wine Competition apart is its distinctive format that fosters a close relationship between wine producers and the municipalities from which the wines originate. This synergy not only highlights the quality of the wines but also emphasizes the rich cultural and geographical heritage of the wine-producing regions. By involving both producers and municipalities, the competition underscores the importance of local terroir in the wine-making process.

RECEVIN, established in 2009, plays a crucial role in this competition. It was created to advocate for territories where wine is a significant part of the economy and culture. RECEVIN offers a platform for these regions to share experiences, forge contacts, and establish partnerships. The network includes national wine associations from 11 member countries: Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Spain, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Serbia. Together, these associations represent nearly 600 cities across Europe.

The primary objectives of RECEVIN include:

  1. Defending the Richness of Wine Regions: Protecting the unique characteristics and designations of origin of wine regions.
  2. Reinforcing Political Action: Enhancing the reputation and presence of wine regions within European institutions.
  3. Amplifying the Voice of Wine Regions: Representing the interests of wine regions in the European Parliament.
  4. Increasing Synergies: Collaborating with the Assembly of European Viticultural Regions (AREV) and the OIV to strengthen the influence and advocacy of wine regions.

The Città del Vino Wine Competition is not just a contest but a celebration of the cultural and geographical diversity of wine production. It offers a platform for wine producers and municipalities to gain international recognition while promoting the heritage of their regions. As the event draws closer, anticipation builds for another successful edition that will undoubtedly contribute to the legacy and prestige of the participating wines and regions.
