From the green heart of Piedmont to the glass: a journey through the vineyards of Ca’ Riunci, where tradition and innovation merge
SALUSSOLA – Nestled in the picturesque hills of Salussola in Northern Piedmont, Ca’ Riunci stands as a testament to ancient history, once inhabited by the Salassi and Victimuli, and fortified during the Middle Ages. The Rocca, with its walls, made the small town impregnable, surrounded by monasteries and farmhouses with vast vineyards. Stefano Bordoni, the owner of the estate, explains: “Ca’ Riunci, a short distance from the town, is an integral part of this rich history. We have restored the ancient vineyards, rediscovering and enhancing past cultivation techniques, just like in Napoleonic times.”
Enological Innovation
Under Stefano Bordoni’s guidance, the estate shines for its enological excellence. “The ‘Genus,’ a Canavese Nebbiolo DOC, is our pride,” Stefano tells us. “With a delicate yet intense olfactory profile and a robust tannic structure, it reflects the uniqueness of our terroir.” Following it are the ‘Rosa Lucis,’ a Rosé Brut sparkling wine that captures the essence of both white and black grapes, the ‘Oblivium,’ a fresh Rosé, and the ‘Solaris,’ an aromatic white, demonstrating the versatility of the winery.
Hospitality and Experiences
The renovation of Ca’ Riunci has transformed an ancient farmhouse into a warm and welcoming place. Simona Diana, Stefano’s mother, adds: “We host our visitors in rooms furnished with authentic rustic style, and offer tastings of our products, surrounded by nature and farm life.” For adventurers, the estate organizes guided tours on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback, exploring the trails surrounding the property and discovering mountain refuges and the rich natural and cultural heritage of Piedmont.
Cultural and Natural Excursions
Ca’ Riunci’s location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. “Our guests can explore Lake Viverone, the Monastery of Bose, the Sanctuary of Oropa, the Ricetto of Candelo and many other historic sites,” Simona explains. Activities include visits to breathtaking panoramas like the Panoramica Zegna and the Burcina Park, with day trips to Lakes Maggiore and Orta.
