Strengthening Presence in the Region, the Group Aims to Enhance Domaine Chanson’s Wine Offerings and Expand its High-Quality Estate Wines.
PARIS – The Bollinger Group has strengthened its position in the Burgundy wine region by acquiring the 50-hectare Château d’Etroyes estate for an undisclosed amount. The company initially ventured into Burgundy when it bought Domaine Chanson in Beaune in 1999.
The Château d’Etroyes purchase adds prime land in Mercurey and Rully, situated in the core of the Côte Chalonnaise, to the group’s portfolio. This acquisition aims to enhance Domaine Chanson’s wine offerings, which focus on premier and grand cru wines from the Côte de Beaune.
Bollinger Group Chairman and CEO Étienne Bizot remarked that Burgundy is globally renowned for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. He also said that the Château d’Etroyes acquisition enables Maison Chanson to continue its value strategy by broadening its range of high-quality estate wines in village and premier cru appellations.
Though the group is primarily known for owning Champagne Bollinger and Champagne Ayala, it has also amassed a collection of top-quality estates from France and beyond. These include Chanson in Burgundy, Langlois-Chateau in Saumur, Hubert Brochard in Sancerre, and Ponzi Vineyards in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Furthermore, the group has diversified into spirits production with Cognac Delamain and Anaë organic gin.
Vincent Avenel, MD at Chanson, highlighted that the Château d’Etroyes acquisition offers a unique opportunity to consolidate their estate with the addition of 50 hectares of excellent terroirs from the Côte Chalonnaise. He also revealed plans to obtain organic certification for their Côte de Beaune vines in 2024 and to convert the Château d’Etroyes vines within the next five years.
