A “ROYAL” EDITION TOOK PLACE AT THE REGGIA DI VENARIA

VENARIA – A truly “royal” edition, set against the memorable backdrop of the Reggia di Venaria in Venaria Reale, Turin, took place yesterday, Monday, May 8th, for The Alta Langa Premiere.

Sixty producers were present with over 140 different cuvées to taste, from the most recent vintage on the market, 2019, to older ones like 2006; a largely horeca (90%) and journalist (10%) audience, totaling 2,000 people accredited to the event, which sold out days earlier and had a long waiting list.

“The enthusiasm for the ‘Piedmontese High Bubbles’ is palpable,” comments Mariacristina Castelletta, president of the Alta Langa Consortium, with satisfaction. “Both from the producers, whose wines and passion have made our guests fall in love with our denomination, and from the public, who were able to experience the high profile of the Alta Langa DOCG within a place – the Galleria Grande of the Reggia di Venaria – where Piedmont’s excellence was perfectly highlighted.”

The masterclasses, led by sommelier Davide Buongiorno, were also a great success: 90 people, in three different sessions, attended the in-depth study dedicated to Alta Langa wines with the longest aging, discovering the denomination in depth and appreciating the great longevity and pleasantness of Alta Langa.

This was the fifth edition of the grand tasting of all cuvées from the members of the Alta Langa Consortium, organized after the 2022 edition at the Italdesign Museum, the autumn 2019 edition at Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan, and the first two editions (spring 2019 and spring 2018) at Grinzane Cavour Castle.

A continuous crescendo over the years, describing the journey of the Alta Langa DOCG. A winning bet since the early nineties, when the first seven pioneering producers joined forces with local winemakers to create a classic method that could represent the winemaking pride of Piedmont. That “gentlemen’s agreement” is now bearing fruit. After years of experimentation, obtaining the DOC in 2002 and the DOCG in 2011 (retroactive to the 2008 vintage). The vineyard area is now 378 hectares, covering 149 municipalities in the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, and Cuneo. In the coming years, another 220 hectares will be added to the Alta Langa vineyard, and production, which reached 3 million bottles in this harvest, will increase proportionally.

The technical partners of this edition of The Alta Langa Premiere were: Associazione Italiana Sommelier Piemonte, Consorzio per la Tutela del Formaggio Robiola di Roccaverano, Consorzio di Tutela e Promozione del Crudo di Cuneo, Il Pane Caldo del Mattino, Nocciole d’Elite, and S. Bernardo.
