Unveiling the Future of Wine in a Celebration of Greek Heritage and Innovation
ATHENS – This year, Athens once again hosted the prestigious Oenorama wine fair, the largest exhibition of Greek wines globally. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the event took place from March 2nd to 4th at the Zappeion Megaron in the heart of Athens. Established in 1994, Oenorama has become an integral part of the Greek wine industry, showcasing over 2,500 wines and spirits from more than 250 exhibitors to approximately 10,000 Greek and international visitors.
The fair featured a diverse range of activities and sections designed to cater to both trade professionals and wine enthusiasts. Highlights included the Tasting Gallery, which offered trade-only visitors the chance to sample over 200 recently released wines in ideal conditions, and the Wine Revelations Hall, showcasing more than 30 “top obscure” wineries from across Greece, highlighting the country’s rich viticultural heritage and its future stars.
Moreover, the event spotlighted natural wines and rare indigenous Greek varietals, with over 60 wines served and explained by a team of sommeliers in the Wine Bar of the Wine Revelations room. This focus reflects the growing interest in natural and uniquely Greek wines, underscoring the country’s diverse wine-making traditions.
In addition to wines, the fair presented cutting-edge oenological equipment and supplies in the Oenotechnica section, illustrating the fair’s role in bridging tradition with innovation in the wine industry.
Oenorama 2024 also celebrated international participation, hosting winemakers from Cyprus and Lebanon, signifying the event’s broad appeal and the global interest in Greek wines. This international presence highlights the Greek wine market’s significant growth and the increasing demand for both domestic and international varieties.
Organized by the wine communication company Vinetum and the online guide about food and hospitality FNL Guide, Oenorama’s official opening was an invitation-only event, marking the beginning of a weekend celebrating Greek wine’s past, present, and future.
The Oenorama wine fair not only offers a comprehensive overview of the Greek wine industry but also serves as a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring the latest trends in viticulture and oenology. Its success over the past 30 years reaffirms its position as a key event for wine professionals and enthusiasts alike, looking forward to discovering the richness of Greek winemaking.
